RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - For the third time this season, Henderson State quarterback Andrew Edwards has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Through the first eight weeks of the 2023 season, Edwards is the only GAC player to have accumulated three Player of the Week awards. The Bentonville, Arkansas, native is the first Henderson football player to win the award three times in one season since 2019 and the first HSU quarterback to do so since Kevin Rodgers in 2013.

Edwards' third honor comes after a five touchdown performance against Arkansas-Monticello while completing 82.1 percent of his passes (23-of-28) - the highest single-game completion percentage from a Reddie quarterback on a minimum of 25 passes since Sept. 18, 2021. The outing proved to be Edwards' second five-touchdown showing against the Weevils with the HSU signal caller having recorded 657 total yards and 10 total scores in two career games against UAM. 

On the season, Edwards is 139-for-219 (63.5%) for 1920 yards and 18 touchdowns through the air while also having 331 yards and seven scores on the ground. The redshirt-sophomore's 25 total touchdowns leads the GAC.

Edwards and the 6-2 Henderson State Reddies return to Carpenter-Haygood Stadium at GeoSurfaces Field one final time in the 2023 regular season when it hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.
