RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Henderson State quarterback Andrew Edwards and defensive back Cameron Thomas were named the GAC Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week off HSU's 51-0 shutout victory Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Monday's news grants Edwards his second straight Player of the Week honor, bringing his 2023 count to four. The Bentonville, Arkansas, native is just the second HSU player to ever garner four GAC Player of the Week awards in one season.

Thomas, a junior from Shreveport, Louisiana, becomes just the second HSU non-kicker to win the Special Teams weekly award since 2020. Thomas is only the GAC's third non-kicker/punter to receive the recognition this season. 

For the second consecutive week, Edwards recorded a better-than 80 percent completion rate - the first HSU quarterback to have back-to-back such weeks on a minimum of 20 pass attempts in the GAC era - dicing up the Rangers for 331 yards through the air and five passing touchdowns on 18-of-22 passing (81.8%).

The redshirt-sophomore's 331-yard, five-touchdown performance now gives him 44 career passing touchdowns, which is second all-time in program history, and 4388 career passing yards - good enough for fifth all-time.

Thomas posted Henderson's first kickoff return since 2015 and the first of his career with a 72-yard house call to put the Reddies ahead,16-0. The special teams touchdowns came on the ensuing kickoff immediately following HSU's first safety since 2017. The scored served as just the second kickoff return for a touchdown in the conference all season.

The duo will look to lead Henderson St. to an eighth victory when the red-and-gray leave the Natural State one final time in 2023 when they take on Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Oklahoma, Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
