Pinckney Olympic Trial Time Highlights Final Day of Invite

FINAL RESULTS - SHORT COURSE | FINAL RESULTS - LONG COURSE

CLEVELAND, Miss. - For the third straight day, a different Henderson State Red Wave swimmer took center stage in Cleveland, Mississippi. This time, Jase Pinckney owned the limelight with his Olympic trial cut in the 100 meter butterfly on the final day of the 2023 Delta State Christmas Invite.

To close the five-day event, the Red Wave men placed second behind Division I Incarnate Word - its best finish at the mid-season Invitational since the 2019-20 season - with 1126.50 points while the women finished in fifth with 654 points.

Wednesday morning served as the long-course portion of the week, with Henderson State only having a limited amount of participants for the final day. That did not keep the Red Wave from making noise as they had the previous four days.

Tate Sloan for the men got second in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:00.08, followed by Gabriel Vidal Simoes (2:03.95) at third. Kiara Pozvai for the women continued her sprint dominance with her second 50 free of the week as she swam her 50-meter swim in 26.41.

Jack Armstrong capped off his strong week by getting first in the 100 meter free with a 50.14, out-swimming Delta State's second-place swimmer by nearly five whole seconds. Armstrong's time is currently the 16th fastest in USA Swimming this year.

The performance of the day came in the final event of the week as Pinckney claimed an Olympic Trial cut time in the 100 meter butterfly, touching the wall at 53.45 for what was the ninth fastest time in USA Swimming. Pinckney's performance will allow him the chance to qualify for the United States Olympic team in Paris next summer.
