ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - One week after defeating Delta State in walk-off fashion at Clyde Berry Field, Henderson State will head to Cleveland, Mississippi to face the Statesmen at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field Tuesday, Mar. 7 at 5 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT (11-7, 5-4 GAC)
Henderson comes to DSU after dropping the weekend series against Arkansas Tech. The Reddies were in the lead in two of the three games by at least four runs both times before falling in the trio of contests.
Luke Rice hit his fifth home run and second grand slam of the season in the final game of the series for five total RBIs. Rice continues to pace the club with a .429 batting average, which is tied for fifth in the GAC.
Greyson Stevens, who was the hero in the season's first meeting against Delta St., is tied with Rice with five homers on the season.
Colton Patterson has recorded multiple hits in three of HSU's last four games, including three base-knocks against DSU last Tuesday. Thanks to Patterson going 8-of-12 during that four-game stretch, the Murfreesboro, Arkansas native is hitting .362 for third on the team.
Henderson's fielding struggled in the weekend series, accounting for 10 errors in three games. In addition, the Wonder Boys notched 33 hits in 21 innings. Despite the weekend struggles, the Reddies remain fourth in the conference with a 4.80 team ERA.
SCOUTING DELTA ST. (6-10, 2-4 GSC)
After losing to Henderson last Tuesday after leading 7-5 with play heading into the bottom of the seventh, Delta State was able to take one game against West Florida on the road, 4-2 but ultimately fell in the weekend series. The Statesmen have now lost five of their last seven games.
Brett Burrell and Kirkland Trahan are tied for the team lead with 18 hits. Burrell is also pacing the team after hitting .321 through 16 games, followed by Trahan at .300. Both Burrell and Trahan logged a pair of hits last week against the Reddies.
