RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - For the second time this season, Henderson State starting pitcher
Andrew Howard was named the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. This is the third time in 2023 HSU has garnered the Pitcher of the Week honor.
Howard earned the weekly honor after posting his second complete-game shutout of the season in game two of this past weekend's series against Southern Nazarene. In his lone appearance of the week, the North Little Rock, Arkansas, native went the full seven innings while only allowing three hits and striking out a season-high eight batters.
For the year, the right-arm hurler is carrying a 5-3 record and a 5.05 ERA through 51.2 innings of work and leading the team with 45 strikeouts. Among HSU's three starting pitchers, Howard has also given up the fewest walks (18).
Henderson St. closes out its regular season home stand with the fourth best pitching team-ERA of 5.29. The Reddies will look to carry its solid pitching efforts into its two final road series' starting this weekend in Shawnee, Oklahoma, against Oklahoma Baptist Apr. 21-22.
