ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson will close out its 2023 regular season about 2000 feet from Clyde Berry Field when it takes on Ouachita Baptist at Rab Rogers Field beginning Friday, Apr. 28 at 3 p.m. The final games of the season prior to the GAC Tournament are set for Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT (28-19, 19-11 GAC)
Henderson has been on fire against GAC opponents as of late, winning five straight conference series'. In addition, HSU has rallied extremely well, with four of those five series victories coming after dropping the first game of the best-of-three.
Since March 25 when this series-winning streak began,
Kaden Argenbright has hit a team-best .338 (25-for-74) at the plate to help propel HSU's offense. On the defensive side, starting pitcher
Andrew Howard has done his part at keeping the opposition at bay, allowing only six runs and 16 hits while striking out 23 in his last 27.2 innings of work, followed by
Reese Weaks with eight runs, 18 hits and 22 strikeouts in his last 21.1 innings.
The quest for that coveted fourth seed in the GAC Tournament which would grant said team a first-round home three-game series is wrapping up. The Reddies have the fast track to claim the Top-4 positioning as they are currently a game ahead of 18-12 Arkansas-Monticello and hold the tiebreaker over the Boll Weevils. With UAM playing Southern Arkansas this week, as long as HSU finishes with the same or better record as Monticello, the four seed will go to the red-and-gray.
Ouachita Baptist has taken both nonconference contests over Henderson this season. Since 2012, the series between the two programs is dead even at 23-23. Interestingly, in that time, HSU has fared better against the Tigers on the road as opposed to at home, holding a 12-9 record at Rab Rogers Field compared to 9-12 at Clyde Berry Field. Â
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST (34-13, 22-8 GAC)
Ouachita Baptist has won eight of its last nine conference games, but comes into this weekend off a 9-1 non-conference loss to Harding on the road. On the season, OUA is 16-6 at home, 13-6 on the road and 5-1 in neutral site games. The Tigers have not lost a league series at home all season as they have reached a program record 22 GAC victories.
G. Allen is pacing Ouachita's high-powered offense with a .378 batting average and a 1.146 OPS with a team-high 65 hits and 10 home runs. The Tigers boast five other batters who are hitting .308 or better for a team batting average of .301. The strength of OUA, however, is in their pitching as they carry a miniscule 4.14 team-ERA, which is ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II.
