ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Before meeting Arkansas-Monticello for a three-game weekend series in Arkadelphia, Henderson State will make the trip to Monticello, Arkansas to face the Boll Weevils in a midweek non-conference bout Tuesday, Apr. 4 at 3 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT (21-13, 12-9 GAC)
Henderson is coming off one of its biggest GAC series victories of the season, defeating Harding in back-to-back contests after dropping the opener to claim its fifth series-victory of 2023. After outlasting HSU in extra innings in game two, 3-2, the Reddies strung together consecutive three-run innings late in the contest to claim the series, 6-4.
Thanks to their efforts in Searcy, the HSU pitching staff has established itself as one of the better pitching teams in the league. The Reddies (4.95) are one of just four teams with a team-ERA under 5.00 while opponents are hitting .256 of them. Henderson is also second in the conference with 10 saves (Southern Arkansas, 12).
Henderson is 4-2 in midweek games this season, including three straight over then-No. 20 Arkansas Tech, then-No. 14 Southern Arkansas and Mississippi College. The red-and-gray have struggled against the Weevils since joining the league. Since the formation of the GAC in 2012, HSU is 3-10 against UAM at their place and 7-10 at home. Â
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO (20-13, 12-9 GAC)
Arkansas-Monticello comes into Tuesday's matchup off an impressive series victory over No. 18 Arkansas Tech, including a 12-2 run-rule victory in the finale to clinch the series. The win brought UAM's record at Weevils Field to 10-8.
The Boll Weevils are currently tied with the Reddies in the league standings at 12-9, though, as it stands right now, HSU would have the edge as UAM got swept by Harding in their weekend series before Henderson took two of three from the Bison. That will all change over the next four games between the teams over the next five days.
