No. 6 HSU Moves Attention from Regionals to Nationals

LIVE STATS | TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After capturing the GAC Championship and the Central Region Championship each in the last three weeks, the No. 6 Henderson State women's golf program will spend the potential next five days in Eureka, Missouri, in search of the ultimate team trophy: A National Championship.

The teams and individuals represented in Missouri will play the first three rounds of Nationals May 16-18 from the Par 72, 6187-yard Fox Run Golf Club. After that, the top eight teams will advance to match play, lasting May 19-20.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson St. earned the automatic qualifier to the 2023 NCAA National Championships after winning the Central Region Championship in Larchwood, Iowa, last week. After coming into the final round trailing by four strokes, HSU made up 12 strokes to win the event by eight strokes with a 54-hole score of 13-over 877 - the program's second all-time best Par 72 team score across 54 holes.

Henderson comes into this week as one of the few teams to have seen this course already. Earlier in the 2022-23 campaign, the Reddies played the National Championship Preview at the exact course that many wide-eyed collegiate student-athletes will be gracing this week. In its first test at Fox Run Golf Club, Henderson finished second behind then-No. 1 Dallas Baptist by four strokes. Allie Bianchi won the individual crown after carding a 54-hole score of 1-under 215.

According to the latest Top-25 WGCA rankings, 13 of the 18 teams at this week's National Championship were found among the national rankings. Each of Division II's Top-7 teams and nine of the Top-10 will all be competing for a National Championship over the next five days.

Henderson has competed against several of the top-ranked teams this season, holding a 1-0 record over No. 1 Lynn, No. 5 Anderson (S.C.) and No. 10 Indianapolis. The Reddies are 1-2 against No. 2 Dallas Baptist, with their lone victory over them coming on the Patriot's home course at the DBU Women's Classic, and 1-1 against No. 7 West Texas A&M.

Two-time GAC Player of the Year Gracen Blount and unanimous First Team selection Jinna Boonbumroongsuk will lead a staunch red-and-gray five-bag into action this week. Blount and Boonbumroongsuk finished Top-5 at the Central Regional Championships as Blount has posted six consecutive Top-5 finishes while Boonbumroongsuk is sitting at three of her last four finishes being inside the Top-5. Both golfers are carrying a team-best 73.53 stroke average.

The first three rounds beginning on Tuesday, May 16 will consist of traditional stroke play scoring. After three rounds, the top eight teams will move to match play, where advancing squads will play an eight-team bracket format with the top team playing the No. 8 team, the No. 2 team versus the No. 7 team and so forth. Both quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be Friday, May 19 before a National Champion will be crowned Saturday, May 20.
