Taylor Named 2023 GAC Male Athlete of the Year

GAC MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR INTERVIEW - LAMAR TAYLOR

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - After delivering one of the most successful seasons in Henderson State Athletics history, Lamar Taylor of Henderson State men's swimming and diving was the named the 2023 GAC Male Athlete of the Year, becoming the first HSU male athlete to win this award since Kevin Rodgers of Reddie football earned the honor in 2014.

The Freeport, Bahamas, native's 2022-23 season will go down in the record books as one of the greatest single-season performances in the history of Reddie Athletics.

Taylor captured many awards and honors this past year, including: New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Male Swimmer of the Year, CSCAA Division II Male Swimmer of the Year, three-time National Champion - the first individual National Champion for HSU since 2010 and the first ever three-time national champion at a single Nationals event in Reddie history - six-time All-American, Henderson St. Male Athlete of the Year and now GAC Male Athlete of the Year.   

After setting record after record in the red-and-gray, Taylor took to his home meet in the summer of 2023 where he set two national records at the Bahamian National Meet in the 100-meter backstroke (56.47) and the 50-meter freestyle (22.35).
