HENDERSON STATE VS. UTPB RESULTS: OCTOBER 24, 2024
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Henderson State men's and women's swimming and diving teams both picked up sizable victories over Texas Permian Basin at Wells Natatorium on Thursday night.
The Red Wave women dominated to the tune of a 150-68Â score, while the No. 12 men posted 152-78Â result.
On the women's side, the Red Wave swept the top 11 individual performances of night.
Kiara Pozvai provided the top two individual performances of the meet with 23.88-second and 56.83-second runs in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Backstroke events, respectively. Joanna Miller claimed the No. 3 and 4 performances of the evening with a time of 5:15.02 in the 500 Yard Freestyle and a 10:48.65 finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Valerie Grigar posted a top-five performance in the 50 Yard Freestyle to finish in second place behind teammate Pozvai (25.47 seconds). The senior from East Bernard, Texas, also recorded the night's sixth-best performance in a winning 55.27-second effort in 100 Yard Freestyle.
Shelby Travis (2:00.67 in the 200 Yard Freestyle) and Emma Crowe (2:14.98 in the 200 Yard IM), and Madi Murray (100 Yard Fly) all won their individual events en route to top 11 individual performances. Raven Roberts finished the 50 Yard Freestyle in 26 seconds even to claim third place in the event and the meet's ninth-best individual performance. Daniella Ruiz rounded out the top 10 individual performances with a second-place time of 11:10.45 in the 1000 Yard Freestyle.
HSU also swept the women's 200 Yard Medley and Freestyle Relays. The team of Crowe, Pearl Himelick, Murray, and Roberts bested UTPB's squad by nearly ten seconds in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:55.59), while the team of Pozvai, Miller, Travis, and Grigar took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:39.34. The Henderson relay team made up of Emily Hand, Ellie Merrill, Roberts, and Ryan Grasser finished second in the latter event (1:46.44).
The nationally-ranked Red Wave men posted seven of the top 10 individual performances on their own side of the meet.
Distance swimmer Colton Bennett recorded the best men's performance of the night with a winning time of 9:40.04. The sophomore from Austin, Texas, completed the race nearly 35 seconds ahead of the next finisher.
Zach Ponder posted the second-best individual performance in a victorious 1:43.77 effort in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Hayden Jestes joined him in the top five with a 4:48.48 time in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
Tate Sloan's finish of 1:45.88 in the 200 Yard Freestyle put him less than one second ahead of teammate Nojus Skirutis. Both men's efforts in the event earned them a spot in the meet's top 10 individual performances. Sloan also won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 47.78 seconds.
Mark Eberhard took first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 59.17. Teammate Colin Candebat followed just 17 hundredths of a second behind him (59.34). Eberhard and Candebat's times put both of them on the top 10 performance leaderboard for the evening.
Like the women's team, the HSU men swept the meet's two relay events. Jean Ducastel, Oskar Cebula, Patryk Dabrowski, and Scott Doll put together a first-place time of 1:34.25 in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, while the team of Oliver Pozvai, Vitor Sa, Luka Herceg, and Candebat won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay at 1:26.46.
The Red Wave will look to build on its wins from Thursday night when the men's and women's teams travel to Conway, Arkansas, for the Hendrix Relays on Friday, October 25.
