Red Wave Sweeps 61st Annual Hendrix Relays

CONWAY, Ark.  -  The Henderson State Red Wave swept the 61st Annual Hendrix Relays by winning both the men's and women's meets on Friday night.

The Red Wave women earned their victory by posting a team score of 394: the best total of either meet and more than 60 points higher than the next-best women's team. The No. 12 men won by accumulating 388 points over the course of the night's events.

In the women's meet, the Red Wave provided four of the night's top five individual performances. Kiara Pozvai topped the performance rating leaderboard with a 52.60-second time in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Valerie Grigar claimed the No. 2 slot by clocking in at 25.16 in the 50 Yard Freestyle, while Joanna Miller took the third spot with a time of 1:00.60 in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Emma Crowe followed closely behind at 1:02.38 in the 100 Yard Backstroke - the fifth-best individual performance of the night.

In all, Henderson won nine of the meet's 10 women's relay races, including the 400 Yard Freestyle, the 200 Yard Freestyle, two 400 Yard Medleys, the 800 Yard Freestyle, three 300 Yard Relays, and the 1500 Yard Freestyle.

On the men's side, the Red Wave had three of the meet's top five individual performances. Colin Candebat had HSU's top individual performance and the second-highest individual rating overall with a time of 47.63 seconds in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Jean Ducastel had the third-best peformance rating at 51.98 seconds in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Vitor Sa earned the No. 4 spot on the individual performance leaderboard by finishing the 50 Yard Freestyle in 21.47 seconds.

The Red Wave men proved victorious in eight of the night's 10 relay events, the 400 Yard Medley Relay, the 400 Yard Freestyle, the 200 Yard Freestyle, the 800 Yard Freestyle, three 300 Yard Relays, and the 500 Yard Freestyle.

Tomorrow, Henderson State will compete in its third meet in as many days when the Red Wave men and women travel to Arkansas' state capital to take on Little Rock and St. Louis.
