Reddies Bounce Back with 52-7 Win Over Bison

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  -  Henderson State got back to winning ways with a 52-7 victory over Oklahoma Baptist at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium on Saturday.

Jody Easter put the Reddies on top immediately when he returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. Jalan Hicks added a score of his own on a 16-yard pass from Andrew Edwards to give HSU a 14-0 lead after one quarter. On the first drive of the second quarter, the Bison's EJ Moore found the end zone on a six-yard run to cut Henderson's lead in half. From there, the Reddies outscored their opponents 38-0 to provide the final result.

Edwards completed 15 of his 21 passes for 242 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. The former Bentonville Tiger also paced HSU's ground game with 73 yards on seven carries.

Timieone Jackson led the Reddies' receiving corps with seven catches that went for 65 yards. The GAC's reception leader hauled in a 28-yard scoring strike from Edwards early in the third quarter.

Though he only had two catches on the game, Micah Greene managed to turn both receptions into touchdowns. The sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, finished the day with 55 receiving yards.

Cayden Davis found the end zone on a 52-yard play late in the second quarter. Elijah George turned his single reception of the game into a 17-yard score in the third.

As a unit, Henderson's defense collected seven tackles for loss and two sacks. Facing three different quarterbacks, the group limited Oklahoma Baptist's passing game to a combined 85 yards and a 48 percent completion rate.

Defensive end Gary Lewis led the charge with seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, and two quarterback hurries.

Leo Morris and Jamarion Citizen both set new career highs with six tackles apiece. Bryant Hammond II and Derriun Thompson each contributed five tackles apiece.

Cameron Thomas recorded an interception and returned it for 24 yards in what proved to be the only turnover of the game.

On special teams, Kolby King went a perfect seven-for-seven on extra point attempts. The senior from Houston, Texas, also hit a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Next week, the Reddies will head to Oklahoma for the first time in over a month to take on Southern Nazarene. Kickoff at SNU Football Stadium is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m.
