Red Wave Men Finish First, Women Take Second at 2024 Eagle Invite

2024 EAGLE INVITE RESULTS: NOVEMBER 15-17

EDMOND, Okla.  -  Henderson State finished second or higher in both the men's and women's standings at the 2024 Eagle Invite hosted by Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, Oklahoma.

On the men's side, HSU took first place with a team score of 1,001 points across the three-day event. The Red Wave women compiled 709 points during the invite, which was second only to host OCU. After Sunday's races, Henderson sat atop the combined (men's and women's) team leaderboard with an overall score of 1,710 points.

Kiara Pozvai, fresh off of being named the NSISC's Women's Swimmer of the Month and qualifying for the SCM World Championships in home country of Hungary, punched her ticket to nationals with NCAA Division II A-cuts in both the 50 Yard Freestyle (22.6 seconds) and 100 Yard Freestyle (48.91 seconds). She joins Drury's Jonette Laegreid as the only two swimmers in Division II with multiple A-cuts at this point in the young season.

Pozvai accounted for five of the three-day meet's top six individual performances. She earned an additional B-cut for her 54.93-second out in the 100 Yard Backstroke.

Joanna Miller recorded two B-cuts of her own in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:51.69) and the 500 Yard Freestyle (4:57.63). With the latter of these times, the freshman from Lafayette, Louisiana, set a new school record in the 500 Yard Freestyle event.

In relays, the Red Wave Women picked up victories in both the 200 Yard Medley Relay and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The first of these wins saw Pozvai, Emma Crowe, Raven Roberts, and Miller take first with a time of 1:44.76. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Pozvai, Valerie Grigar, Shelby Travis, and Miller proved victorious with a time of 3:27.03.

In the men's races, Patryk Dabrowski collected B-cuts in both the 100 Yard Freestyle (44.51 seconds) and 200 Yard Freestyle (1:39.78).

Zach Ponder posted the Red Wave's best individual performance rating with a second-place time of 4:34.50, which put him just over two seconds away from victory.

During the three-day event, Henderson's men won three separate relays. The first of the three victories saw the team of Jean Ducastel, Oskar Cebula, Colin Candebat, and Dabrowski finish the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:30.42. Tate Sloan, Oliver Pozvai, Vitor Sa, and Dabrowski took first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay by completing the race at the 1:21.57 mark. Pozvai, Sa, Candebat, and Dabrowski later won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:01.64.

Following the Eagle Invite, the Red Wave will break from competition for nearly two months before returning to Wells Natatorium for a Senior Night meet with Montevallo. That NSISC conference matchup is scheduled for Friday, January 10.
