Baseball Returns Home to Host Mississippi College Tuesday

COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After capturing its fifth GAC series victory of the season, Henderson State returns to Clyde Berry Field where it will meet Mississippi College for the second time this season Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT (16-15, 11-7 GAC)
Henderson State swept Saturday's doubleheader against East Central to win the series on the first day of the weekend trifecta, but was tripped up in the series finale to remain one game out of first place in the GAC standings. With one month remaining in the regular season, HSU is tied with two other teams for fifth place in the conference rankings.

Over the weekend, Kaden Argenbright added to his impressive senior campaign, setting a new HSU career RBI record with 177 RBI. Argenbright now owns the all-time record for doubles (62), runs scored (177), hits (271) now RBI. In addition to his record-breaking campaign, the Sulphur Springs, Texas, native is sporting a nine-game hit streak, which is the third longest of his career.

After a five-hit weekend against the Tigers, Mitchell Szczygiel now owns the team's top batting average at .372, despite having only played in 14 of Henderson's 31 games this season. Szczygiel has recorded a hit in his last five games played, accumulating 10 hits and five RBI over that stretch. Behind Szczygiel is Luke Rice, who is hitting .350 with a team second-most 36 base-knocks (Argenbright, 41).

In the season's first meeting against Mississippi College, Ryan Galvan got the start on the mound, earning a no-decision after throwing 3.0 innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Dawson Goines was one of three HSU pitchers to not allow a run, giving the visitors two innings and surrendering just three hits while tallying two strikeouts. On the evening, the Choctaws used an 11th-inning walk-off home run to grab the midweek victory, 8-7.

SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE (13-14, 5-10 GSC)
Since its late night with the Reddies back on Tuesday, Mar. 12, Mississippi College is just 1-6. Three of those losses, however, have been by three runs or fewer. Most recently, MC fell to Shorter University in a Gulf South Conference weekend series, two games to three.

Infielder Wesley Sides is pacing the Choctaw bats after hitting .349 through 27 games. Since going 2-for-4 against the Reddies, however, Sides has just four hits in his last seven appearances, going 4-for-23 during that stretch. J.T. Vance is second on the team with a .346 batting average as he has a team-high 36 hits. Vance was the hero against HSU in the first go-around, finishing the day with four hits, four RBI and two home runs, including the walk-off winner.

The Choctaw pitching staff allowed 14 hits to Henderson against their own 13, though only four multiple-base hits were permitted, three of which went to HSU's Austin Scritchfield, while MC delivered three two-baggers and two home runs on offense. Closer Lane Little earned the win for Mississippi College, pitching two strikeouts and no hits in one inning of work.
