ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - For the final time in the 2024 regular season, Henderson State will play a weekend GAC series away from Clyde Berry Field as the Reddies head to Feland Field in Bethany, Oklahoma, to take on the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm.
First pitch of the three-game weekend series is set for Friday, Apr. 12 at 2 p.m. while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m. with the series finale to follow.Â
REDDIES REPORT (19-19, 13-11 GAC)
Henderson State is coming off just its second GAC series loss of the season to Arkansas-Monticello, dropping the Reddies to 13-11 in conference play. With nine conference games remaining, including this weekend's three-game series, HSU is currently tied for sixth place in the league standings and is two games out of fourth.
As a team, Henderson State is hitting .271, led by
Kaden Argenbright's .354 average. Argenbright, who is currently sporting a 16-game hit streak, is one of four Reddies batting .312 or better, including
Louis Holt, who is leading the clubhouse with a .463 on-base percentage after recording a team third-most 29 hits while working a team-high 20 walks.
On the mound, HSU is carrying a team-ERA of 5.76, which is eighth in the league, while
Reese Weaks and
Kyle Williams have spent the most time on the bump with a 4.96 and 5.55 ERA, respectively. Opposing batters are only hitting .258 against the Reddies, which is the fourth-best mark in the GAC.
Henderson St. is currently riding an 18-game winning streak against Southern Nazarene, with its last loss against the Crimson Storm coming in 2017. The Reddies' dominance continues even further in Bethany, with the red-and-gray having not lost to SNU in the Sooner State since 2014. HSU has won each of the last 12 meetings by at least eight runs.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE (12-27, 6-18 GAC)
Southern Nazarene is 6-18 in conference, which is tied for their most GAC wins in a single season since 2018 with nine league games still remaining. The Crimson Storm are coming off a midweek non-conference victory over the league's first-place Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers in run-rule fashion, 12-2.
In the win over NWOSU, SNU's Max Dias recorded four hits with four RBI and two runs scored while hits-leader Jacob Martinez (51) claimed a single base-knock. Martinez is also sixth in the conference with a .383 batting average. As a team, Southern Nazarene is tied with Henderson for tenth in the league with .271 overall batting average.
This season, the Crimson Storm are 2-2 in home GAC series' with best-of-three wins over East Central and Arkansas-Monticello. Overall, SNU is 9-9 playing at home compared to just 3-18 away from Feland Field. Meanwhile, HSU is 7-8 in true road games with a 3-1 GAC series record away from Clyde Berry Field in 2024. Â
