Allen Earns First GAC Baseball Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - After helping lead HSU to its first GAC series sweep of the season, Henderson State baseball's Jordan Allen was named the Great American Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Allen, a true freshman from Tatum, Texas, joins Kaden Argenbright and pitcher Reese Weaks as the three HSU baseball players to receive the weekly conference honor in 2024.

The Lone Star State product recorded at least two hits, a home run and an RBI in every game this past weekend against Southern Nazarene. For the series, Allen hit .636 with seven hits, three home runs and eight RBI, slugging 1.727.

In game two of the three-game slate, Allen recorded a double, triple and a home run, sitting one single shy of hitting for the cycle. The first-year Reddie finished with three hits and four RBI as the red-and-gray posted the 15-3 run-rule victory.

On the season, Allen is third on the team with a .330 batting average while leading the way with seven home runs, slugging a team-best .626.

With the help of Allen and the three-game sweep of Southern Nazarene, Henderson State (22-19, 16-11 GAC) is now tied for fifth in the conference standings with six GAC games remaining.

The first half of the final conference stretch begins Friday, Apr. 19 at Clyde Berry Field when the Reddies host Oklahoma Baptist at 6 p.m. Before that, Arkansas-Monticello will make its way to Arkadelphia for a non-conference game Tuesday, Apr. 16 at 6 p.m.
