CLEVELAND, Miss. — Henderson State's Kiara Pozvai, Nojus Skirutis, and Jean Ducastel all claimed individual titles to headline Friday evening at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference Championships for the Red Wave.
Pozvai tied her own conference record from 2023 in the 100-yard backstroke as she touched the wall in 54.19 seconds to top the podium in the event for the second-straight season. It was Pozvai's second individual crown of the event, alongside her 50-yard freestyle victory.
Skirutis took first place in the 200-yard butterfly in an NCAA Division II Championship qualifying time of 1:46.73. It was the second individual championship of the week for the Lithuanian, who also won the 200-yard IM on Wednesday night.
Ducastel, who had the top seed time entering the finals of the 100-yard backstroke, held off the field to win the event and was the only swimmer to clock in under 49 seconds with a winning time of 48.87. Like Skirutis and Pozvai, it was Ducastel's second title of the week after he swam a leg of Henderson's victorious 200-yard medley relay team on Wednesday.
Several other Red Wave swimmers scored in finals on Friday evening as Zach Ponder took third with a B-cut in the 500-yard freestyle (4:28.46), Oskar Cebula took second place with a B-cut in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.19), and Colin Candebat finished third behind Skirutis with a B-cut in the 200-yard butterfly.
