ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State looks to win a third straight conference series when it heads to Shawnee for a three-game set at Oklahoma Baptist this weekend. The series will open with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 15. The Reddies will then close their weekend showdown with the Bison in a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 16.
REDDIE NOTES
Henderson State aims to build on back-to-back conference series victories over nationally-ranked opponents. Last weekend, the Reddies took two of three at No. 12 Harding, averaging nearly eight runs per contest against a team that had previously boasted a 2.45 earned run average for the season (the best amongst Division II teams with at least 90 innings pitched at the time).
Reese Weaks has recorded back-to-back quality starts and wins to open HSU's last two series. Since the start of conference play, he carries a 3-1 record with a 3.32 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
Cole Rodriguez is now 3-0 on the year with a 3.24 earned run average in 33.1 innings pitched. He threw a season-high 7.2 innings of work in his latest victorious outing at Harding. The senior right-hander's opposing batting average of .225 is ranked 11th in the GAC.
Payton Byrd leads the Great American Conference with five saves on the season.
Luke Farrar enters the weekend on a 10-game hitting streak. The senior second baseman tops the team in batting average (.373) and OPS (1.061).
Luke Rice posted a 1.404 OPS in last weekend's series against the Bisons. He has reached base safely in all 21 of his appearances for the Reddies in 2025.
Alex Galvan leads all qualified Henderson Batters with a .478 on-base percentage. Tripp Campbell is in second at .457.
Jaxson Gregg doubled twice in the Reddies' loss to Mississippi College on Wednesday. The outfielder paces the team with seven two-baggers on the year.
Cal Jones has four hits in his last two games, with three going for extra bases.
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
Oklahoma Baptist checked in at No. 9 on this week's NCBWA Central Region Rankings. The Bison have won five straight games and their three latest series in conference play. OKBU has plated ten or more runs in seven of its last nine contests.
DJ Van Atten is the reigning GAC Player of the Week after recording a 2.221 OPS in last weekend's series versus East Central. This season, Van Atten leads the team in batting average (.446), OPS (1.318), hits (33), and RBI (tied at 24).
Lucas Schaefer outright leads the team with six home runs and holds a share of first place with 24 RBI (tied with Van Atten) and five stolen bases (tied with Jesse Tisdell). He collected seven hits and drove in four runs in three games against the Tigers, including two three-hit performances.Â
Keenan Morris has drawn 20 walks in 21 games played this year.
Bryant Thornton and David Stuart have each opened the season with a 4-1 record. Thorton leads the Bison's qualified starters in earned run average (4.05), WHIP (1.31), and opposing batting average (.243), while Stuart paces OKBU's squad in innings pitched (32.2) and strikeouts (28).
