Henderson State University and Reddie Athletics proudly announce a $250,000 gift from the estate of alumnus James (Jim) Reginald Wage to support the construction of a new Player Development Center. In recognition of this transformational gift, the facility will be named in Wage's honor, following formal approval by the Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees during their meeting on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
A member of the Reddie Baseball team in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Jim Wage had a lifelong love for the game and a deep affection for Henderson State. His legacy will now live on through this state-of-the-art facility, which will provide year-round training opportunities and serve as a powerful recruiting asset for the program.
"We are deeply grateful to the Wage and Jones families for their incredible generosity and commitment to Henderson State University and Reddie Athletics," HSU Chancellor Dr. Trey Berry said. "This transformative gift will leave a lasting impact on our student-athletes for generations to come. Jim's legacy as a Reddie will now be forever honored through this facility, which will provide invaluable opportunities for growth, development, and success."
The James Reginald Wage Player Development Center will feature a covered training facility equipped with batting cages, bullpens, and a flexible netting system that can be reconfigured for infield practice and defensive drills. The indoor space will ensure that training can continue year-round — providing uninterrupted development for student-athletes regardless of weather conditions.
"This is a monumental step forward for our program," Henderson State head baseball coach Cody Hooten said. "The Wage Player Development Center will give our student-athletes the tools they need to reach their full potential and take our program to the next level. We're honored to carry Jim Wage's name forward and incredibly thankful for the generosity that makes this possible."
Thanks to the Wage gift and additional commitments from alumni and friends, over 75% of the project's $500,000 goal has now been secured. Pending the remaining fundraising, construction is expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026, with a formal dedication ceremony to follow upon completion.
"This investment not only enhances the skill development of our players but also strengthens the foundation for future success," Director of Athletics
Seth Dutton said. "We are incredibly grateful to the Wage and Jones families for their vision in making this dream a reality. Their commitment to our student-athletes is something we will forever appreciate."
