Edwards Named GAC Offensive Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Henderson State senior quarterback Andrew Edwards was named Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, following an impressive performance in the Reddies' 48-18 win over Arkansas-Monticello. Edwards earns his first GAC honor of the season and the tenth of his career. He is now just the third player in league history to win player of the week at least ten times, trailing only Reddie Hall of Honor inductee Kevin Rodgers (14) and Southern Nazarene's Gage Porter (12)

The Bentonville, Arkansas native was 19-for-28 passing for 243 yards and two touchdowns. Edwards also ran the ball nine times for 71 yards and a rushing score. For the first time in his career, the redshirt senior was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass, hauling in a Micah Greene pass in a fourth-quarter trick play.

Edwards is just the second quarterback in Great American Conference history to pass for, rush for, and receive a touchdown pass in the same game. He leads the GAC in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions per game, and total offense.
