Reddie Baseball Sweeps GAC Weekly Awards

Ross, Richardson Earn First Honors of Season

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced its players of the week for baseball on Monday, and Henderson State swept the awards. Freshman infielder Tanner Ross was named Player of the Week, while sophomore pitcher Rhett Richardson was named Pitcher of the Week.

Ross earned the honor after a four-home run day in Friday's doubleheader at Southern Nazarene. Ross went 4-for-5 with three home runs and six RBI in game one of the doubleheader, a 15-11 Reddie win. The freshman from Texarkana followed up the team's season-best performance with a 1-for-3 performance with two RBI, both of which came on a seventh-inning, two-run home run in HSU's 5-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.

Richardson, who has worked his way into a starting role, got the nod after a six-inning, two-hit, seven-strikeout performance in Friday's second game. The sophomore from Smackover earned his second win of the season while walking just one of the 21 batters he faced.

The Reddies are back in action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. mid-week home matchup with Mississippi College.
