Reddies Finish Second at GAC Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Henderson State women's golf moved itself up a spot in the standings, but was unable to stage a comeback on Wednesday in the final round of the GAC Championship held at Page Belcher Golf Course in Tulsa. The second-place finish ends a streak of five consecutive conference championships for the Reddies.

Henderson now awaits its fate for the Central Region Tournament, to be held May 7-9 at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri. HSU has been ranked highly in each of the region rankings throughout the past month and should be comfortably into the field.

HSU finished with a team score of +68 for the tournament; Arkansas Tech won the championship with a team score of +38.

As has been the norm throughout the tournament, Lily Nelson led the Reddies with a 3-over-par 74 to finish fourth individually; the first-team all-conference selection finished in the top 10 of a GAC Championship for the fourth consecutive year, with a round marked by 13 pars and a birdie.

Lora Jones saved her best round of the season for Wednesday with a 4-over 75 in a round marked by an even-par 35 on the front nine. The freshman moved up nine spots in the standings to finish 34th for the tournament.

Isabella Ferreira carded another solid round, shooting a 6-over 77 after two rounds of 78 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Ferreira finished 18th on the individual leaderboard.

Second team All-GAC member Paulina Narvaez matched her first round score after turning in a 7-over 78 split by a round of 75 on Tuesday. The senior settled in on the final six holes, with two birdies on the second nine after shooting a 40 on the front nine. Narvaez finished 14th individually.

Hailey Coleman improved on her Tuesday score, carding a 9-over 80 on Wednesday. The junior did manage a birdie on the par-3 fifteenth hole and finished 28th individually.
