Henderson State combined for 525 yards of total offense as the Reddies rolled to a 30-14 win over Southeastern Oklahoma, Saturday in Durant, Okla.
The Reddie rushing attack totaled 319 yards as redshirt-freshman Israel Valentin totaled 134 yards on 22 carries, while Jarvis Smith gained 105 yards on 9 attempts. It was the first time since 2004 that two Reddie running backs rushed for more than 100 yards in the same game.
The Reddies, 3-3 on the year and 2-1 in the Great American Conference, owned the first quarter as Henderson built a 14-0 lead after the opening stanza.
Smith got things going with a 51-yard run for a score to put the Reddies on top 7-0 midway through the quarter.
Smith later set up Henderson's next score with a 40-yard run to put the Reddies in scoring position. Kevin Rodgers then hit Dustin Holland with a 4-yard strike to make the score 14-0.
Henderson totaled 163 yards in the first quarter, while SOSU had just 48 yards.
Southeastern, 2-4 and 1-3, then took advantage of five Reddie turnovers in the half.
With the Reddies deep in SOSU territory three times, the Storm picked off Rodgers three times, twice inside the SOSU 10 to end Henderson scoring threats.
SOSU's first score was set up when Greg Rogers picked off a pass at the SOSU 33.
A 27-yard pass from Logan Turner to Anthony Gale set up a Brandon Bryant 13-yard touchdown run with 3:40 left in the half to make the score 14-7.
On Henderson's first play from scrimmage following the kickoff, Smith fumbled and Logan Russell pounced on the loose ball to give SOSU the ball on the Reddie 6.
Bryant then punched in from the 1 to tie the score just before half.
Rodgers, who suffered a concussion in the first-half was replaced by Nathan Nall at quarterback.
The second half belonged to the Reddies as they gained nearly 300 yards in the half, while the defense allowed just 102 yards in the final 30 minutes.
Henderson regained the lead on its first possession of the half as Eric
Torres booted a 28-yard field goal with 9:42 remaining in the third quarter.
The Reddie defense then forced a three-and-out to set up Henderson's next score.
Nall hit Holland on a 38-yard pass play to get Henderson deep in to SOSU territory. Turell Williams capped off the drive with a 2-yard plunge to make the score 24-14.
Henderson then put the game away in the beginning of the fourth quarter as Kevin Nichols capped off an 8-play, 63-yard drive with a 3-yard run.
After having five turnovers in the first-half, the Reddies took care of the football controlling the ball for 20 minutes in the half.
Nall completed 9-of-14 passes for 120 yards in the second half, after Rodgers completed 11-of-18 in the first half.
Defensively, Henderson limited SOSU to 245 yards of total offense while recording seven tackles for lost yardage. Robbie Aldridge and Triston Crook both had fumble recoveries, while Vince Thompson had six tackles, including two for lost yardage.
