Henderson State used 53 percent shooting in the second-half to beat Arkansas-Monticello 95-85 Saturday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Reddies, 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Great American Conference, moved back atop of the league standings with the win.
The Boll Weevils, 12-3 and 2-1 in the GAC, jumped out to an early 16-6 lead before the Reddies went on a small 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 16-12 with 12:23 left in the first half.
UAM lead throughout the half, but the Reddies continued to respond and cut the lead down to one, 37-36 by halftime.
Henderson State took its first lead of the game to begin the second half off a second-chance jumper from Matt Nicholson, 38-37.
The Reddies never trailed in the second half as the Reddies went on a 12-3 run to take a 53-42 lead with 15:06 left to play. The run was sparked by a pair of 3-point field goals by Denzel Lyles and Deoirvay Johnson.
The Reddies began dominating the game running increasing their lead to as many as 18 with 6:59 to play. UAM would never recover and the Boll Weevils' six-game winning streak would end.
Five Reddies scored in double figures led by Andrew Ensley's 19 points, while Denzel Lyles added 17. Jonathan Fitzgerald totaled 13 points, with Lester Johnson having 11 and KaJuan Watson 10.
Sergio Crowe led the Weevil attack with 20 points. L.A. Farmer finished with 19 points, while Ricardo Hall added 15.
The Reddies held the slight edge on the boards, outrebounding UAM 45 to 44 with Ensley having 8 rebounds.
Henderson State ended the game shooting 45 percent from the floor, 32-of-71, and 33 percent from beyond the arc. UAM hit on 47 percent shooting from the floor, going 30-of-63 and 8-of-26 from 3-point range for 30 percent.
