Reddies Go On Late Run to Beat UAM

Jonathan Fitzgerald hit a half court shot as time expired to lead Henderson State to an 88-85 win over Arkansas-Monticello at Steelman Field House in Monticello, Ark.

Fitzgerald's game-winner capped off an 11-0 run that covered the final 1:25 of the game to help the Reddies win their fourth straight.

Arkansas-Monticello, 15-8 overall and 5-6 in the Great American Conference had an 85-77 lead with 1:25 remaining, but the Reddies put together the improbable 11-0 run to steal the conference win.

Andrew Ensley started things with a 3-point field goal off an assist from Fitzgerald. After the Reddies forced a turnover, Denzel Lyles drove for an easy layup to make the score 85-82 with 40 seconds remaining.

Fitzgerald then pulled down a defensive rebound off of a missed layup by LA Farmer. Following a Henderson State timeout with 14 second remaining to play, Ensley hit another 3-point field goal to tie the score at 85-85.
The sophomore Fitzgerald then stripped Kori Forge of the basketball and then heaved the half-court shot for the Reddie win.

Henderson State, 15-7 overall and 10-2 in the GAC, held a 40-34 halftime lead but UAM battled back to take a 47-46 lead just under five minutes into the half.
The Boll Weevils held the lead until the Reddie run late in the game. UAM did not score a field goal in the last 1:25.

Lyles led the Reddies with a game-high 30 points, hitting on 12-of-18 field goals including 6-of-10 3-pointers.

Fitzgerald followed with 18 points to go along with 8 assists and his lone 3-point field goal to win the game.

Ensley totaled 13 points with 6 rebounds, while KaJuan Watson scored 10 points.

Sergio Crowe scored 30 points for UAM with Farmer having 21 points.

Henderson ended the game hitting 34-of-63 shots from the field for 54 percent. The Reddies also were hot from long-range hitting 11-of-17 treys for 65 percent.

UAM shot 47-percent from the floor, 32-for-68, including 13-of-30 from three (43-percent).
