REDDIES DROP THIRD STRAIGHT

Henderson State could not hold off a late run by Southern Arkansas as the Muleriders handed the Reddies their third straight loss 69-64, Thursday in Magnolia, Ark.

Despite the loss, Henderson State secured the No. 2 seed in the inaugural Great American Conference Tournament next week in Bartlesville, Okla.

Andrew Ensley gave Henderson State a 61-56 lead with 5:16 to play in the game. However, it would be Henderson's last field goal of the game.

Deoirvay Johnson hit a pair of free throws to give the Reddies a seven point cushion with 4:45 left in the game.

SAU then went on a 13-1 run the remainder of the game to rally and beat the Reddies.

SAU's Chris Davis hit a jumper and a 3-point field goal to tie the game at 63-63.

After Jonathan Fitzgerald hit one of two free throws, Davis put SAU back on top to give the Muleriders the lead for good with a layup at the 1:31 mark.

Henderson State missed its final nine shots down the stretch and made one of two free throws.

Ensley led the Reddies with his second straight double-double, scoring 23 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.

Denzel Lyles added 17 points including having four 4-point field goals, while Fitzgerald had 8 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Reddies, 15-10 overall and 10-5 in the GAC, struggled from the field hitting just 23-of-60 shots from the field for 38 percent, while SAU was 25-of-52 for 48 percent.

Davis scored 23 points for the Muleriders, while Casey Chessier scored 21 points.

The Reddies return home for their final game of the regular season as they play host to Harding University at the Duke Wells Center on Saturday. Tip-off for the game is set for 4 p.m. The game will also serve as Senior Day as the Reddies honor the careers of Josh French and KaJuan Watson.
