Reddie Baseball Loses Third Straight

Henderson State managed just four hits as No. 2 Central Missouri completed a three-game sweep of the Reddies with a 4-3 win, Sunday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies, 6-4 on the season, continued to struggle with the strong UCM pitching staff. Reddie batters struck out nine times on Sunday and managed just one extra-base hit.

Henderson State took an early 1-0 lead in the first-inning as Zac Zdanowicz walked to leadoff. With two outs, Zdanowicz stole second and then scored on an RBI double by Josh Salmon.

Central Missouri, 4-0 on the season, tied the game at 1-1 when Albert Selanders led off the inning with a solo home run to left field.

The Mules took a 2-1 lead in the fifth-inning as Brad Wilson led off the frame with a triple to center field and scored on a John Cotter single to right field.

Henderson State answered in the 5th when Michael Schell singled up the middle and advanced to second on a Jeff Beck sacrifice bunt. Schell then advanced to third on Adam Ussery's single to left field. Zdanowicz plated Schell on a ground out to third-base to tie the score.

Central Missouri struck for two runs in the top half of the seventh to take a 4-2 lead.

Henderson State answered with a run in the bottom half of the 7th as
Taylor Coleman was hit by a pitch and later scored when Schell singled and the two advanced on an error. The Reddies, however would never threaten again.

Travis Unthabk pitched the final three innings for UCM to pick up the win, while Brittain Diamond was tabbed with the loss. Diamond pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and striking out five.

Henderson State will next play host to Central Baptist in a double-header on Wednesday beginning at Noon.
