With the win, Henderson State improves to 13-7 overall and 8-2 in the Great American Conference. The Reddies are now in first-place in the league standings, having a half game lead over Arkansas Tech. The Wonder Boys were idle on Saturday.
Jonathan Fitzgerald scored all 18 of his points in the second-half including making 8-of-11 free throws.
The two teams were tied at 32-32 at the break as East Central lead for most of the first-half.
The Reddies scored the final five points of the half on a pair of free throws by Marlon Johnson and a 3-point field goal by Josh French as time expired.
Henderson State led for most of the second-half before Dylan Lemly sunk a three-point field goal and Randolph Howell got an easy layup to put the Tigers up by three.
Trailing 64-61 with just over five minutes to play in the game, Henderson's Denzel Lyles hit one of his four treys to tie the score.
The Reddies were able to hit nine of 12 free throws in the final five minutes, with Fitzgerald making 5-of-6 charity shots to preserve the win.
Lyles ended the game with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field.
French had another strong game with 10 points and a team-best 9 rebounds.
Howell led East Central with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
The Reddies ended the game shooting 47 percent from the field, knocking down 27-of-58 attempts.
The Tigers hit on 26-of-56 shooting from the floor for 46 percent including hitting just 7-of-24 shots from beyond the arc for 29 percent.
