Reddies Win Third Straight

Henderson State recovered from a furious second-half run by Southeastern Oklahoma as the Reddies beat the Storm 88-72, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

With the win Henderson State improved to 14-7 on the season and remains atop the Great American Conference standings with a 9-2 record. The Reddies also secured their first winning season since 2006-07.

The Reddies, winners of three straight, built a 43-27 halftime lead behind four 3-point field goals by Denzel Lyles.

Southeastern Oklahoma, 8-15 and 4-7, struggled with the Reddie defense in the first 20 minutes making just 10-of-33 shots from the field and a dismal 1-for-13 from beyond the arc.

After extending the lead to 49-32 on a Matt Nicholson layup early in the second half, the Savage Storm got into a rhythm outscoring the Reddies 26-9 over the next 10 minutes to tie the score at 58-58 with 7:58 left to play.

Henderson regained the lead on a pair of free throws by Josh French and a pair of jumpers by French and Andrew Ensley to put the Reddies on top 64-58.

KaJuan Watson ignited another Henderson State run by hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Reddies up 70-61. Southeastern never threatened again.

Ensley led the Reddies with 20 points, while Lyles ended the game with 16 points.

Jonathan Fitzgerald added 15 points with four assists, with Josh French having 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Also having a good showing was Nicholson with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Four Storm players reached double-figure scoring, led by Zac Downing's 16 points. He was joined by Ivan Johnson with 15, as well as Antonio Worthy at 14 and Chris Roussell at 11.

Henderson State ended the game hitting 30-of-61 field goals for 49 percent, while converting on 8-of-16 treys.

Southeastern shot 42 percent from the field making 25-of-59 field goals including going 5-of-22 from long-range.

The Reddie defense forced 23 Southeastern turnovers which led to 20 Reddie points.
