Reddies Drop Twinbill to UAM

Henderson State dropped a Great American Conference double-header to Arkansas-Monticello as the Boll Weevils rallied to win game one 6-5, and then down the Reddies 4-1 in the nightcap, Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.

In the opener, Henderson squandered a three-run lead in the ninth-inning as UAM scored four runs in the inning to beat the Reddies.

The inning began with J.D. Deloach reaching on a walk, followed by Tyler Walker being hit by a pitch to chase HSU starter Nathan Eller.

Dustin Hudson then entered the game on the mound for the Reddies and Taylor Eaves greeted him by lining a single to left field to load the bases. Christian Gallegos then hit what should have been a routine double-play, but the ball was mishandled to allow all runners to advance and the Boll Weevils plate a pair of runs.

Deloach then scored the tying run as Danny Loya hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

Then with two outs, UAM took the lead after Josh Chism doubled and scored on a Hunter Allday single.

The Reddies never threatened in the bottom half of the inning as reliever Eddie Smith shut the door to pick up the win and improve to 2-0 on the year.

Henderson State built its 5-2 lead scoring a run in the third-inning on a Hudson single to score Zac Zdanowicz who walked to begin the inning.

The Reddies then plated two runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Hudson that scored Conner Brackhahn who was hit by a pitch and Zdanowicz who singled earlier in the inning.

In the Reddie seventh-inning, Brackhahn led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on an error. Following a Zdanowicz walk, Josh Salmon singled to score Brackhahn. Brittain Diamond then singled to drive home Zdanowicz to put the Reddies on top 5-2.

In game two, UAM pitcher Josh Chism held the Reddies in check, allowing just six hits and striking out seven batters to pick up the complete-game win.

Henderson State had several opportunities, but the Reddies hit into three big double-plays.

The Reddies' lone run came in the seventh-inning as Taylor Coleman was hit by a pitch and then scored on a pinch-hit single by Garrett Eller.

Zdanowicz, Brackhahn and Hudson had three hits each in the double-header for the Reddies, with Hudson collecting three runs batted in.

On the day, the Reddie offense had just one extra base hit, struck out 18 times, and hit into four double plays.

The two teams will play the final game of the series, Sunday at Clyde Berry Field beginning at 1 p.m.
