Reddie Baseball Sweeps UAFS

Henderson State swept a double-header from Arkansas-Fort Smith as the Reddies downed the Lions by scores of 6-3 and 4-1, Tuesday in Fort Smith.

In game one, the Reddies scored runs in each of the first four innings with Conner Brackhahn getting things started in the first-inning with a RBI single driving in Zac Zdanowicz who walked to lead off the inning.

Henderson added a run in the second-inning on Mitch Frey's sacrifice fly which scored Michael Corso who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

After UAFS cut the Reddie lead to 2-1, Henderson plated two more runs in the third as Taylor Coleman led off the inning with an infield single. Coleman then scored on a Corso triple with Corso scoring on an infield single by Brittain Diamond to make the score 4-1.

UAFS answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Reddies responded with a run in the fourth as Jeff Beck led off the frame with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zdanowicz to make the score 5-3.

Henderson State, 16-13 on the season, added an insurance run in the sixth-inning as Brackhahn collected his second RBI with a single to left field to score Zdanowicz.

Ryan Nevels pitched 5 innings, allowing six hits and striking out three batters to pick up his first win of the year.

The Reddies only managed four hits in the second game, but made those hits count.

Henderson broke a scoreless tie in the third-inning when Adam Ussery led off the inning with a double and then scored on Jordan Trosclair's single to center field.

In the sixth, the Reddies scored three times on just one hit. The inning began as Zdanowicz walked followed by a single by Beck. Josh Salmon scored Zdanowicz on a sacrifice fly. After Dustin Hudson walked, Beck and Hudson scored on a throwing error to make the score 4-0.

Scott Shimp pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing seven hits and striking out two batters to get his first win of the year.

The Reddies will next travel to Searcy, Ark. to face Harding in a three-game Great American Conference series beginning with a Saturday double-header.
