Reddies Strand 11 Runners in 3-1 Loss to Harding

Henderson State stranded 11 base runners as the Reddies dropped the third game of its series with Harding 3-1, Sunday at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy, Ark.

In a classic pitching duel between Henderson's Brittain Diamond and Harding's Lucas Waddell, Waddell was able to keep the Reddies off-balance striking out four batters to improve to 4-2 on the year.

Diamond, who had the second-best ERA in the conference entering Sunday's game, went the distance and was the tough luck loser falling to 5-3. It was Diamond's fifth complete game of the season.

The Reddies again scored in the first-inning to take a 1-0 lead as Conner Brackhahn hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Josh Salmon.
Harding tied the game in the bottom of the first on a single by Kyle Atkins that scored Chase Presley from second base.

The Bisons took the lead for good in the fourth when Tyler Stanford singled to right to score Anthony Guglielmi from third. Guglielmi led off the inning with his a double, Harding's only extra base hit in the game.

Henderson had an opportunity to tie the score in the top of the eighth as Salmon hit a one-out double, but was stranded as the next two Reddie hitters flew out to right-field,

The Bisons tacked on another run in the eighth to take a 3-1 lead. With Atkins on second and no outs, Harding's Matt Calhoun looped a single over the drawn-in infield to score Atkinsson.

The Reddies mounted a threat in the ninth as Henderson loaded the bases with Adam Ussery, Zac Zdanowicz and Taylor Coleman having singles with two outs. Brackhahn, who doubled earlier in the game, came to the plate and grounded out to second to end the game.

Henderson State won a double-header from the Bison's on Saturday to clinch the series, but could not record a sweep losing for the first time in its last six games and fell to 18-14 overall and 7-8 in the Great American Conference. The Bisons snapped a seven-game losing streak and improved 19-13 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

Henderson State will next play host to East Central Oklahoma in a three-game GAC series beginning with a single game on Friday with the first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
