Northeastern State scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth-inning to lift the RiverHawks to 6-5 win over Henderson State, Sunday in Tahlequah, Okla.
Northeastern State, 22-21 on the season, led 2-0 after an inning before the Reddies took advantage of three NSU errors and scored twice to tie the game in the second without a hit.
Henderson State, 21-20 on the season, briefly took the lead in the third-inning as
Michael Schell delivered a run-scoring single to center field.
Jordan Trosclair led off the inning with an infield single followed by a double by
Michael Corso. However, after the single by Schell, the Reddies could not plate another run in the inning.
Northeastern tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom half of the Reddies regained the lead in the fifth.
With two-outs in the sixth-inning, Schell doubled to left center followed by a single by
Tripp Reeves to score Schell and give Henderson a 4-3 lead.
The RiverHawks then plated a pair of unearned runs with the use of just one hit to take a 5-4 lead after six innings.
In the eighth, Henderson State tied the game when
Josh Ritter's RBI single scored Reeves. The Reddies went on to load the bases again before closer Roldan Ochoa got
Jordan Trosclair to hit into another twin killing to limit the damage.
With the game knotted at 5-5 in the ninth, NSU's Trevor Walch lined a single to left and stole second with one out. Greg Jackson's single dropped in behind third base to move Walch to third before Davidson hit the first pitch he faced to second. The Reddies attempted to turn a double play, but the throw to second base was high, both runners were safe and Walch crossed the plate for the game-winner.
The Reddies collected eight hits in the game with Trosclair and Schell having two hits each.
Brittain Diamond started the game on the mound going five innings while allowing three hits and one earned run.
Dustin Hudson pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and was tabbed with the loss and fell to 3-3 on the year.
The Reddies return home for the final five games of the regular season beginning Tuesday with a game against Delta State beginning at 3 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
