Delta State Uses Big Inning To Beat Reddies

Three walks and a hit batsman led to three Delta State runs as the Statesmen beat Henderson State7-3, Tuesday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Delta State, 31-11 on the season, jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Reddies struck for a run in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Coleman started the inning with a base hit into right field. Jordan Trosclair scored Coleman with a double into left field.

The Statesmen extended the lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth, but Henderson again answered in the bottom of the inning as Michael Schell led the inning off with a double to right field and scored from third when Brittain Diamond grounded out to make the score 3-2.

Again the Statesmen added a run in the seventh to make the score 4-2 before the Reddies responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning and had a chance to add more.

Zac Zdanowicz led off with a walk and later scored on a RBI single by Michael Corso. The Reddies loaded the bases with one-out, but failed to plate another run.

The Statesmen put the game away in the top of the eighth inning scoring three runs with the help of three straight walks and a single by Jon Carnahan.

Ricky Winters picked up the win on the mound for Delta State, while Anthony Gilliland suffered the loss for the Reddies and fill to 0-2. Gilliland pitched 7 innings, gave up four runs with two being earned, walked one, and struck out one.
