Henderson State scored seven runs in the fourth-inning and cruised to a 12-2 win over Ouachita Baptist, Sunday at Clyde Berry Field.
With the win, the Reddies advance to the Great American Conference Tournament as the sixth-seed next week. Henderson will face either Southern Arkansas or Southeastern Oklahoma in the opening round on Friday with the first pitch set for Noon in Enid, Okla.
Henderson State, 23-25 overall and 11-13 in the GAC, advances to a post-season conference baseball tournament for only the second time since obtaining NCAA Division II status in 1994. The Reddies last went to a conference tournament in 2010
when they were part of the Gulf South Conference.
The Reddies put together six straight hits to begin the fourth-inning with
Zac Zdanowicz leading off with a double down the left-field line.
Jordan Trosclair then reached on a bunt single which advanced Zdanowicz to third.
Conner Brackhahn brought home the first run with a single up the middle to score Zdanowicz.
Michael Corso loaded the bases with a single, then
Josh Salmon belted a single to right-field to plate two more runs.
Adam Ussery joined the hit parade with a RBI single to left -field. After the Reddies added another run courtesy of an OBU error,
Tripp Reeves added the seventh base hit of the inning to score another run and put Henderson on top 7-0.
The Reddies added two runs in the sixth-inning as Frey led off with a single followed by a Reeves walk. The two both advanced on a double steal with Frey scoring on a throwing error by catcher Tom Ward.
Josh Ritter then entered the game with two outs and scored Reeves with a single to right-field to make the score 9-0.
The Tigers, 26-24 on the year and 12-12 in the GAC, scored its only two runs in the eighth-inning.
The Reddies added three more runs in the eighth on a fielder's choice by Trosclair and a sacrifice fly by Ritter. Corso drove in the third run of the inning with a double to left-center field to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.
Henderson State ended the game with 14 hits, with Corso, Frey, Reeves, Trosclair and Salmon all having two hits each.
Brittain Diamond pitched 7 2/3 innings and struck out five batters to improve to 7-3 on the season.
