Box Score Three weeks have been completed in the 2012 football season, and it has been announced by the Great American Conference that Henderson State's sophomore quarterback
Kevin Rodgers has received his third consecutive GAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Rodgers, who is statistically among the nation's top quarterbacks, continued his stellar sophomore season going over 300 yards passing for the fourth straight time dating back to last year. The Rockwall, Texas product completed 21-of-32 passes for 381 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for another in Henderson's 73-34 thrashing of Arkansas Tech.
For the season, Rodgers has completed 71-of-98 passes for a completion percentage of 72.4 which leads the nation at the Division II level, while also having a 224.97 passing efficiency which is also tops in the nation. His 394.3 passing yards per game ranks fourth nationally, and he leads all divisions of the NCAA in touchdown passes with 17.
“These awards are great, but they belong to my teammates as much as they do to me,” said Rodgers. “Our coaches have done a great job implementing our offensive scheme, the offensive line gives me great protection, and our receivers are some of the fastest and most talented in the league.”
Henderson State is 3-0 for the first time since 1981 and will play host to Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.
