Henderson State could not hold off a second-half Texas A&M Commerce rally as the Lions upended the Reddies 71-68, Wednesday in Commerce, Texas.
Henderson State, 5-6 on the season, squandered a 9-point first-half lead as the Lions outscored the Reddies 42-30 in the second-half.
The Reddies built a 38-29 advantage at the break behind a 19-6 run midway through the half. During a six minute spurt,
Charles Wesley sparked the Henderson offense scoring all eight of his points.
Reggie Murphy also scored 10 points in the half and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line, while
Ronald Lawson totaled 8 points and 6 rebounds.
In the second-half, Henderson managed just two offensive rebounds with the Lion defense forcing 12 turnovers leading to 13 points.
Henderson led 66-54 with 7:24 to play in the game, but the Lions went on a furious run outscoring the Reddies 17-2 the rest of the game.
The Lion defense forced six Henderson turnovers down the stretch while the Reddies were 0-for-5 from the field.
Murphy ended the game with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Lawson recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Tyrie Wooten led Texas A&M Commerce with 15 points.
The Reddies converted on 8-of-22 three-point field goal attempts and were 24-of-52 from the field for a percentage of 46, while the Lions converted on 27-of-64 attempts for 42 percent.
Henderson State will break for the holidays and return to the court on January 4 with the Reddies playing host to Southern Nazarene in a Great American Conference contest beg inning at 4 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
