REDDIES DROP ANOTHER CLOSE ONE

Box Score Arkansas-Monticello's Kenric McCants hit a pair of free throws with 3 seconds remaining to give the Boll Weevils a 66-65 win over Henderson State, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies, 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the Great American Conference once again fought back from a 12-point second-half deficit to take a 65-64 lead with 17 seconds left as Reggie Murphy scored off a Kevin Kozan miss.

On UAM's final trip down the floor, McCants lowered his shoulder and drove into Murphy to draw the foul. McCants then proceeded to sink both free throws.

Despite the frigid temperatures outside, both teams were hot from the field in the opening half as UAM hit 16-of-27 shots for 59 percent, while the Reddies were a respectable 16-of-28 from the floor for 57 percent.

Jared Harrison's 14 first-half points and three 3-point field goals helped the Boll Weevils build a 42-36 lead at the break.

UAM, 5-2 overall and 2-1 in GAC play, pushed its lead to 53-41 early in the second-half before Taylor Smith sparked the Reddies with a 3-point field goal with 13:50 to play in the game.

Henderson slowly mounted its comeback as Deoirvay Johnson converted the traditional 3-point play, while Murphy followed with a layup at the 11:35 mark to make the score 53-49.

The Reddies' only lead of the second-half came on Murphy's tip-in with 17 second left.
Murphy was a force inside scoring a game-high 22 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. The junior from Los Angeles was 10-for-10 from the field.

Also having a double-double was Ronald Lawson who totaled 12 points and 10 boards.
Smith added 13 points while dishing out seven assists.
Harrison led UAM with 16 points, while Brandon Wilson had 13.

The Reddies ended the game converting on 26-of-51 field goals for 51 percent, while UAM was 26-of-57 for 47 percent shooting.

Henderson State is scheduled to play host to Southern Arkansas Saturday, at 4 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center. Due to poor weather conditions, the game could be postponed for a later date. A decision will be made Friday. Fans are encouraged to visit the HSU Athletic web site at hsusports.com for updates.
