HSU BASKETBALL TEAMS RETURN HOME TO FACE ARKANSAS TECH



Henderson State's men's and women's basketball teams will return home Saturday to play host to Arkansas Tech in Great American Conference action at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Lady Reddies, 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the GAC, will attempt to end a 14-game losing streak to the Golden Suns when they tip-off at 2 p.m.

The Reddies, 6-7 and 2-3 in the GAC, are scheduled to play the Wonder Boys at 4 p.m. and will be looking for their first win over ATU since 2012.

The Lady Reddies are coming off a tough 92-75 loss to 8th-ranked Harding on Thursday.

Henderson State must improve in the rebounding department as the Lady Reddies were outrebounded 44 to 33 against Harding and managed just 6 offensive boards.

Aungelique Sledge leads the Lady Reddies in scoring averaging 21.5 points per game after her 18 point performance against Harding. Sledge scored all 18 of her points in the first half against the Lady Bisons.

Arkansas Tech, 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the GAC, suffered a 72-60 setback to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday.

Cara Neighbors leads Arkansas Tech averaging 13.7 points per contest. Anissa Pounds follows, scoring 13.3 points per game while leading the team in 3-point field goals with 22.

Henderson's last win against Arkansas Tech was a 57-52 victory on Feb. 20, 2006.

The Reddies are coming off an 89-71 loss to Harding on Thursday.

Deiorvay Johnson continues to lead the Reddies in scoring averaging 15.2 points per game. The Fort Worth, Texas product had a career-high 26 points against Harding.

Freshman Kevin Kozan scored 13 points against the Bisons and is averaging 9.6 points per game while averaging 25.4 minutes played per contest. The native of New Lenox, Ill. isn't afraid to shoot the rock having converted on 29 of 67 three-point field goals for 43 percent.

Arkansas Tech enters the game with an 8-5 record after an impressive win over Ouachita Baptist 66-54.

The Wonder Boys are averaging 74.6 points per game and are shooting 46.5 percent from the field.

Darrick Little leads Arkansas Tech averaging 11.5 points per contest including shooting 46 percent from 3-point range.


Bobby Hatchett follows averaging 11.3 points per game including 11.8 points in GAC contests, with Willie Rodgers scoring 10.0 points. Hatchett scored a game-high 25 points against OBU, hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field.

Henderson State leads the all-time series with the Arkansas Tech having an 80-73 advantage in a series which began in 1910. Despite having an edge in the overall series, Arkansas Tech has dominated in recent years. The Wonder Boys have won 12 of the last 13 meetings including three wins last year.

Henderson's last win against Arkansas Tech was during the 2011-12 season when the Reddies recorded a 97-94 victory at the Duke Wells Center in Coach Doug Nichols' first season.

Henderson State will also be attempting to win the school's 1200th game in school history. Henderson State began playing basketball in 1912 and has an 1199-967 all-time record.
