HENDERSON IMPRESSIVE IN 75-48 WIN OVER SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA

Henderson State put on an impressive performance in its home opener as the Reddie basketball team scorched Southeastern Oklahoma 75-48, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Leading 36-32 at halftime, the Reddies outscored the Savage Storm 22-5 in the first six minutes to extend their lead to 21.

Henderson's defense in the final 20 minutes was superb limiting SOSU to just 26 percent shooting (6-of-23) as the Reddies outscored the Savage Storm 39-16 in the half.

The Reddies also forced 18 turnovers by the Storm which led to 21 points.

Kevin Kozan was red hot from the field in the first half, dialing in from long-range three times and connecting on six of his seven attempts from the field. He led all scorers with 15 points at the half and finished the game with 18.

Henderson State, 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Great American Conference, made 13-of-31 attempts for 42 percent shooting from the field in the first half, while Southeastern Oklahoma shot slightly better at 48 percent, making 12-of-25 attempts.

The duo of Danny Powell and Taylor Smaller kept Southeastern Oklahoma close in the opening period, as the two combined for 23 of SOSU's 32 points.

After scoring just 3 points in the first-half, Reggie Murphy took control of the inside game as the senior center scored 17 points in the half to end the game with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field.

The Reddies kept the SOSU defense off-balance moving the ball quickly around the perimeter as the Henderson guards combined for 20 assists.

Leading the way was Aaron Cooper with 7 assists to go along with a game-high 9 rebounds.

Charles Wesley had five dishes along with 10 points, while Micah Walker added four assists and 6 points.

Henderson State finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor converting on 29-of-58 attempts, including making 16-of-27 shots in the second-half for 59 percent.  The Reddies were solid from beyond the arc knocking down 9-of-21 trifectas.

Southeastern made just 18-of-48 shots from the field for 38 percent, including 29 percent from 3-point range making 6-of-23 long range jumpers..

Henderson State will next play host to East Central on Saturday with the opening tip set for 3 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.
