Box Score In its first road conference game of the season, the Henderson State men's basketball team fell at Harding on Saturday evening 92-83.
Henderson State fell to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the Great American Conference, while Harding moved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the GAC.
Trailing 42-38 at the end of the first half, the Reddies shot 12-of-28 from the field for 42 percent in the opening period, while Harding made 14 of their 23 attempts for a 61 percent shooting average.
Solid shooting from
Micah Walker kept the Reddies close at the half, as he connected on three 3-point attempts and scored 11 points.
Harding had a balanced first half scoring attack, as Johnathan McGee led the way with 11 points, while Blake McNair scored 10 and Andras Kavas had nine.
Kerrell Davis was one of the main factors in forcing 11 Harding first half turnovers, as he recorded three steals in nine minutes of playing time.
Harding started the second half hot from beyond-the-arc , nailing a 3-pointer on each of its first four possessions, including two from their big man Andraz Kavas, extending the lead to 54-43.
A layup at the 11:39 mark by McGee extended Harding's lead out to 62-49, as he was fouled and converted the old fashioned 3-point play.
Kozan dialed in from long-range with just under 11 minutes to play, pulling the Reddies within eight points, and a
Kelvin Dixon layup narrowed the Harding lead to seven on HSU's next possession.
Harding kept a safe distance as the second half progressed, however, maintaining a ten to 12 point lead until the 1:02 mark.
Two free-throws by
Aaron Cooper cut the lead to 86-79 in favor of Harding, but that was as close as the Reddies would get, as Harding made several clutch free-throws down the stretch to close out the game.
Walker led all scorers for Henderson State with 22 points, going 6-for-10 from the field and 5-of-8 from behind the 3-point line, and also pulled down 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
Aaron Cooper also pitched in 21 points on 6-of-12 field goal attempts, while Kozan scored 13 and knocked down three trifectas.
Henderson State was out-rebounded 38-to-26, but forced 17 Harding turnovers while committing just nine.
HSU finished the game shooting 26-of-58 for a 45 percent shooting average, while Harding shot 25-of-49 for 51 percent.
The Bisons had four double-digit scorers, and were led by Blake McNair with 26 points on 8-of-15 from the field and 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
McGee also poured in 22 for the Bisons, and Kavas had 19.
The Reddies will next travel to Texas A&M-Commerce in non-conference action on Dec. 19, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
