Box Score Reggie Murphy and
Kelvin Dixon combined for 31 points and 23 rebounds to lead Henderson State to a 63-51 win over Arkansas-Monticello, Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The two big men were a force inside as Murphy recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Dixon totaled 16 points and pulled down 9 boards.
"I was so proud of Kelvin's performance tonight," said HSU coach
Doug Nichols. "He is capable of doing that every night and he has been working on putting everything together. As far as Reggie, we expect him to play like he did every game. He continues to go strong to the bucket and battles for rebounds. That is what you want in a big man."
Both teams had shooting problems in the opening half as the Boll Weevils shot just 33 percent from the floor, while the Reddies converted on 32 percent.
The Reddies, however, were able to take a 29-26 lead into the locker room at halftime as Dixon came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 6 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes to lead the Reddies.
Henderson State, 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Great American Conference, dominated the second-half and shot 60 percent from the field (15-of-25), while the Reddie defense continued to give UAM problems as the Boll Weevils managed to shot just 31 percent from the floor in the half making just 8-of-26 field goals.
Henderson pushed its lead to 45-37 at the 10:39 mark with the help of driving layups by Dixon and a 3-point field goal by
Kevin Kozan.
A pair of free throws and a layup by Murphy with 9:21 left to play gave Henderson a 12-point cushion. UAM would manage to make just two field goals the remainder of the game
The Reddies maintained their double-digit lead most of the half by working the offense and getting high percentage shots, while the defense forced 10 second-half turnovers .
 Kozan also ended the night in double-figures having 11 points after being limited to 2 points in the first-half.
Sherif Hudson, who entered the night averaging 21.8 points per game, was limited to just 8 points for the Boll Weevils.
Henderson State finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field making 25-of-56 attempts, while the Boll Weevils were 17-of-53 from the floor for 32 percent shooting.
The Reddies will next play host to Arkansas Tech on Saturday with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
