REDDIES TAKE ON FIRST-PLACE ARKANSAS TECH

After having Thursday's game with Harding postponed due to scoreboard/game clock issues, Henderson State will hit the road on Saturday to face first-place Arkansas Tech at Tucker Coliseum with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
 
The game will feature the GAC's best 3-point shooting team in HSU, against the best defensive team in the GAC, Arkansas Tech.      

Henderson State enters the game with a 10-12 record overall and a 6-8  mark in GAC while the Wonder Boys are  15-7 overall and 10-4 in league play.
 
Deoirvay Johnson leads the Reddies is scoring averaging 13.6 points per game, while
Melvin Haynes averages 12.0 points per contest.
 
Taylor Smith is averaging 11.8 points per game and leads the GAC in 3-point shooting hitting on 50 percent of his attempts (36-of-72).           
 
Arkansas Tech is coming off an 86-80 win over Ouachita Baptist on Thursday. The Wonder Boys took over the top spot in the GAC with the win, jumping second-place East Central which lost to Southwestern Oklahoma on Thursday 80-65.  
 
Arkansas Tech is the top defensive team in the GAC allowing a league-best 68.2 points per game while limiting its opponents to 41 percent shooting.
 
Bobby Hatchett leads the Wonder Boys in scoring averaging 12.2 points while dishing out a team-best 66 assists.       


Tyler Friedel is ATU's top 3 -point shooter. Friedel averages 9.6 points per game but is shooting 45 percent from 3-point range. On the season, Friedel has made 56 of 124 attempts.           
 
Earlier this season, Henderson State could not stop a hot shooting Arkansas Tech team as the Wonder Boys beat the Reddies 82-63.
 
The Reddies shot just 39 percent from the field (21-for-54), while the Wonder Boys hit on 32-of-58 shots for 55 percent including 64.3 percent in the second half.       

Deoirvay Johnson led HSU with 14 points, followed by 12 points by Taylor Smith.
Bobby Hatchett scored a game-high 17 points for ATU.
           
ATU knocked down 14-of-29 3-point attempts while shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line, while the Reddies managed 9-of-20 from beyond the arc and 67 percent from the charity stripe.
Henderson State leads the all-time series having an 80-74 advantage in a series which began in 1919.
 
ATU has won five straight games over HSU and 13 of the last 14 meetings. Henderson State last beat ATU 97-94 on Jan. 21, 2012 in Arkadelphia.     


The Reddies have lost six straight games to ATU in Russellville. Henderson's last victory in Tucker Coliseum was a 66-42 win on Feb. 2, 2007.
