For the second time this season, Ouachita Baptist's Micah Delph hit a late 3-point field goal to give OBU a 59-58 victory over Henderson State at Vining Arena in Arkadelphia, Ark.
With Henderson State on top 58-56 with 6 seconds left,
Kevin Kozan missed the front end of a 1-and-1. OBU quickly got the got the ball in the hands of Delph who drained a 22-footer from the top of the key for the win.
Despite the loss, Henderson State still clinched a spot in next week's Great American Conference Tournament by virtue of Southeastern Oklahoma's loss to East Central.
Henderson State, 11-16 overall and 7-12 in the GAC, opened the game taking a quick 7-0 lead after
Taylor Smith scored a pair of baskets.
The Reddies maintained a two possession lead for most of the half as both teams battled back and forth exchanging baskets until OBU went on a 7-0 run as Delph tied the score before David Day hit a pair of free throws to give the Tigers their first lead at the 1:34 mark.
On Henderson's next possession, Kozan put the Reddies back on top 28-27 with a 3-point field goal from the top of the key.
Neither team would score in the final 63 seconds as the Reddies went into the locker room leading by one.
The Reddies began the second half going on an 11-2 run to take a 39-29 lead with 14:45 left to play as
Charles Wesley and Smith hit back-to-back 3-pointers.
OBU, 9-16 overall and 6-13 in the GAC, would go on another run to cut the game to a single possession before
Deoirvay Johnson busted a pair of long range jumpers. But Delph answered with a trifecta of his own to cut it back to a 51-49 Henderson lead with 7:40 to play.
With the score tied at 53-53,
Reggie Murphy powered his way inside and put the Reddies back on top at the 2:51 mark.
Murphy then gave the Reddies a 56-53 lead when he hit one of two free throws with 1:31 remaining.
John Kornet had a chance to cut it to a 1-point game for OBU, but he missed both free throws. However, OBU got the rebound and Delph tried to tie the game with a 3-pointer. Delph's shot was off front iron and Murphy was there for the Reddie rebound.
On Henderson's next trip, it was Murphy again that drove to the rack to give HSU a 58-53 lead.
OBU quickly moved the ball down court and with 8.5 second left, Delph was fouled on a 3-point attempt. The junior from Conway made all three to cut the Reddie lead to 58-56.
On the inbound, Kozan was fouled and sent to the line. The freshman's attempt was no good and OBU got the ball to Delph for the game-winner.
Smith led Henderson State with 11 points, while Johnson and
Ronald Lawson scored 10 each.
Delph totaled 24 points with the help of five 3-point field goals.
Henderson State ended the game hitting 20-of-46 shots for 44 percent shooting, while OBU was true on 20-of-57 attempts for 35 percent.
The Reddies converted on 12-of-18 free throws with OBU making 13-of-18 from the charity stripe.
Henderson State will play its final regular-season game on Saturday when the Reddies travel to Magnolia, Ark. to take on Southern Arkansas with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
