Henderson State will put its No. 19 national ranking on the line as the Reddies travel to Monticello, Ark. to take on Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
Henderson State will be challenged by a UAM team that has the top passing offense in the GAC.
UAM, 1-5 on the season, snapped an eight-game losing streak last week by beating Southern Nazarene 51-10. The Weevils went above 600 yards in total offense for the first time since the 2008 season with 434 passing yards and 233 rushing yards.
The Boll Weevils are averaging 339.8 passing yards per game with 19 of their 22 offensive touchdowns coming through the air.
Quarterback Hunter Leppert threw for five touchdowns and completed 25-of-32 passes for 398 yards to earn GAC Offensive Player of the Week against SNU.
The Minden, La. native has completed 115-of-216 passes this season and is averaging a GAC leading 320.8 yards per game. He also has 18 touchdown tosses to his credit.
Leppart has a talented group of receivers to throw to led by sophomore Jalen Tolliver who is second in the league at 91.3 yards per game, followed by senior Cody Bordelon who is sixth at 69.8 and junior Trevon Smith in seventh at 61.2.
The Boll Weevil defense has allowed 39.8 points and 427.7 yards per game with 229.3 yards per game coming on the ground.
UAM senior linebacker Ofisa Kose leads the team with 61 total tackles on the season. Kose has topped the double-digit mark in tackles in four out of six games this season and currently ranks third in the GAC in the category.
Jabari Mathieu has been active in the backfield having a total of 30 tackles including 5.0 stops for lost yardage and 2.5 sacks.
Henderson enters the game having won four straight and sits atop the GAC standings along with Arkansas Tech.
In the last three games, the Reddie defense has given the top offensive teams in the league troubles limiting opponents to 274 yards of offense per game and a total of 24 points.
The Reddies allow just 15.3 points per game which is second best in the GAC. Opponents have been limited to 117.5 yards rushing per game which is also second in the GAC.
The Henderson defense ranks first in the GAC and seventh nationally in "Red Zone" defense. Opponents have a success rate of just 59 percent in the RED ZONE against the Reddies scoring 11 of 19 times.
Lawson Schulz leads the Reddie defensive unit with 48 tackles including 5.5 tackles for lost yardage, four pass breakups and four quarterback hurries.
Linebacker
Josh Davis follows with 44 tackles after having a team best 10 stops last week against Harding.
Offensively the Reddies have used a balanced attack averaging 158 rushing yards and 191 passing yards per game.
Jaquan Cole was limited to 62 yards rushing against Harding but is still averaging 108.8 yards per game. Cole leads the GAC in total rushing yards with 653 yards on 110 carries.
Dallas Hardison completed 17-of-29 passes for 223 yards last week running his numbers on the year to 111-of-183 passes for 1111 yards this season for a 60.7 completion percentage.
JaVante Mack continues to be Henderson's top receiver with 32 receptions for 314 yards. Last week Mack had a team-best six receptions for 80 yards against the Bisons.
Arkansas-Monticello and Henderson State meet for the 78th time in a series which dates back to 1914. The Reddies lead the series 45-30-2 including having won eight of the last nine meetings. Coach
Scott Maxfield is 8-1 all-time against UAM with the lone loss being a 51-48 setback in 2008.
Last year, Henderson totaled 563 yards of offense, while the defense combined for 16 tackles for lost yards as the Reddies rolled to a 49-7 victory.
