Henderson State will open its home portion of its baseball schedule as the Reddies play host to Harding in a three-game Great American Conference series beginning Friday at 2 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field.
The Reddies enter weekend with a 4-0 record after an impressive weekend at the Houston Winter Classic at Minute Maid Park.
The Reddies finished the tournament with a team batting of average of .356 including a .479 slugging percentage.        Â
Henderson's pitching staff combined for a 1.50 earned run average, striking out 15 batters while allowing opponents to hit just .172.        Â
Conner Brackhahn leads the Reddie offense with a .600 average after going 9-for-15 last weekend. Â Â Â Â Â
Claude Johnson has already had an immediate impact in the Reddie line-up having a .476 average (10-for-21) and an impressive 1.048 slugging percentage. Johnson earned GAC Player of the Week honors for his efforts. In the four games, Johnson had four doubles, a triple and a pair of home runs to go along with 8 RBIs.       Â
The Reddie pitching staff was equally impressive having a 1.50 ERA while posting a pair of shutout victories.    Â
Colton Lorance will start game one on the mound Friday. The senior from Texarkana, Texas pitched six innings and struck out four batters in the win over No. 22 Central Missouri. Â
Chris Hunt (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and
Cody Jones (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will start Saturday's twin bill. Hunt pitched six no-hit shutout innings in the win over No. 17 Arkansas Tech, while Jones pitched 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball against Tarleton State.
Harding enters GAC play with a 4-2 record which includes winning two of three games from Missouri Western last weekend.Â
In six games, the Bisons have compiled a .285 team batting average led by Zack Stewart, John Chapman and Noah Chandler who are all hitting .368. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Andrew Fiddler, Jacob Stripling and Andrew Ralston will make up the Bison rotation.
Fiddler has a 0.82 ERA in 11 innings of work with 11 strike outs, while limiting opponents to a .184 average. Stripling has a 2.35 ERA 7.2 innings of work, while Ralston has pitched six scoreless innings with five punch outs.
The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday beginning at Noon to wrap up the series.
