HSU DROPS GAC DECISION ON ROAD AT SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA 65-61

The Henderson State men's basketball team fell 65-61 at Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon in a Great American Conference matchup in Durant, Okla.

Southeastern Oklahoma (11-11, 7-7 GAC) used a 56 percent shooting performance to defeat the Reddies, making 23-of-41 attempts from the field, while Henderson State (9-12, 6-9 GAC) made 24-of-63 attempts for 38 percent.

The Reddies forced 15 SOSU turnovers, full court pressing the Savage Storm for most of the game, while also committing only six turnovers.

However, SOSU knocked down seven three-pointers including four from Sami Bzai, who led the Savage Storm in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-8 field goal attempts.

Southeastern's  largest lead of the second half was 10 points on several occasions, but the Reddies could never pull within less than four in the last three minutes, as SOSU
continued to milk the clock and Anton Cook nailed a 3-pointer with 1:35 remaining to make the score 62-53 in favor of the Savage Storm.

From that point, SOSU scored only from the free throw line, but the Reddies ran out of time to make a comeback.

As a team, HSU 8-for-12 from the charity stripe for 67 percent while the Savage Storm shot 12-of-23 for 52 percent.

Kerrell Davis led Henderson State in scoring on the day with 12 points on 5-of-7 attempts, and also pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Kevin Kozan and Rashad Perkins both pitched in 11 points each, as Kozan nailed three 3-pointers.

HSU held a 2-to-1 assist/turnover ratio dishing out 12 team assists, but lost the rebounding battle to the Savage Storm 36-32.

Leading the way in assists for HSU was Ryan Yeates with four, while also pitching in eight points and five steals.

For Southeastern Oklahoma, Anton Cook pitched in 15 points and Antonio Worthy had 13 to go along with 9 boards.

The Reddies will host Southern Nazarene on Thursday, returning home to the Duke Wells Center for a GAC matchup, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
