Box Score Henderson State was forced to go on the road and face East Central in a Great American Conference baseball series with the Reddies losing the first game of the series 7-3.
The Reddies were to play host to the Tigers this weekend, however with an unplayable field, Henderson State traveled to Ada, Okla. for the three-game set.
ECU pitcher Lucas Kaplan put together a solid pitching performance striking out 11 Reddie hitters before Kaplan was chased from the game following a
Hayden Lessenberry two-run home run in the seventh.
The Tigers, 11-3 overall and 7-0 in the GAC, built a 4-0 lead through six innings with the help of doubles by Cale Russell and Casey Chenoweth.
After the Reddies cut the deficit to 4-2 following Lessenberry's home run, ECU added three runs in the eighth-inning with the big blast being a three-run homer by Garrett Dohonoe.
The Reddies, 9-4 overall and 4-3 in league play, struck for a run in the ninth as
Lance Fields and
AJ Kruzel belted back-to-back doubles.
ECU reliever Quentin McGrath was able to close the door and finish the game for the Tigers.
Henderson State managed seven hits with Kruzel going 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Reddies.
Colton Lorance suffered the loss for Henderson on the mound to fall to 1-2 on the season.
The two teams will finish the series with a double-header on Sunday in Ada, Okla. beginning at noon.
