REDDIE BASEBALL TRAVELS TO ALVA FOR GAC SERIES WITH NWOSU

Henderson State travels to Oklahoma one last time during the regular season as the Reddies face Northwestern Oklahoma in a three-game series beginning on Friday in Alva, Okla.

The two teams will play a single nine-inning game beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a double-header on Saturday with the first pitch set for Noon.

The Reddies, 18-10 overall and 11-6 in the GAC, will attempt to win its sixth conference series in seven tries in hopes of returning to Oklahoma May 2 through 5 for the GAC Tournament in Enid.

Henderson State is currently in second-place in the league standings. The top six teams advance to the conference tournament.

The Reddies enter the series with a .286 batting average along with a .369 slugging percentage following their three game sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma last weekend.

Claude Johnson leads the Reddies offensively with a .356 average which includes a team best five home runs and 26 runs batted in.

Tadarious Hawkins has been the hottest Reddie at the plate as the outfielder from Commerce, Texas is hitting .611 in the last five games going 11-for-18. Hawkins has improved his season average from .200 to .286 in the last five games.

The Henderson State pitching staff sports a 3.17 earned run average while limiting opponents to a .239 average at the plate.
           
The Reddies will go with the normal rotation of Colton Lorance, Cody Jones and Chris Hunt.
           
Lorance is 2-2 on the year with a 3.35 ERA after last week's win over the Bulldogs. The senior southpaw from Texarkana, Texas has worked 43 innings and has limited opponents to a .222 batting average.
                       
Jones is 5-1 on the year with a team best 2.01 ERA which ranks fourth in the GAC. The senior from Phoenix, Ariz. has fanned a team-best 36 batters including eight against SWOSU.
           
Hunt has a 3.23 ERA while posting a 2-2 record. The sophomore from Greenwood, Ark. has notched 47.1 innings on the hill while recording 24 strikeouts.
Reliever Nick Vanthillo has been instrumental out of the bullpen. The Reddie reliever picked up a pair of saves against SWOSU to run his season total to five. Vanthillo has a 4-0 record on the season with a 2.53 ERA in 21.1 innings on the hill.


Northwestern Oklahoma enters the series with a 14-18 overall record and a 6-12 mark in league play.   

The team bolsters a .259 average with Jeff Martin leading the way with a .364 average along with a team best 26 RBI. Martin has a .559 slugging percentage which including 10 doubles and three home runs.
           
The Ranger pitching rotation consists of Matthew Bickford (4-4, 3.59 ERA), Daniel O'Brien (1-1, 6.00) and Brody Aushfahl (2-4, 3.05).
