Box Score Henderson State dropped the opening game of its three-game Great American Conference series with Northwestern Oklahoma, 7-3, Friday in Alva, Okla.
The Reddies, playing their 23rd game on the road, managed seven hits with
Jordan Taylor and
Hayden Lessenberry having two hits each.
NWOSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first-inning as the Rangers put together three hits including a key double by Logan Porter.
The Reddies, 18-11 overall and 11-7 in the GAC, tied the score at 3-3 in the fifth-inning as
Conner Brackhahn and
Carlos Rodriguez led off the frame with back-to-back walks.
Brackhahn scored Henderson's first run as
AJ Kruzel reached on an error, while Rodriguez advanced to third.
Taylor then tied the score with a two-run single to right field.
The Rangers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs getting a two-run double by Matt Been to make the score.
Northwestern added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away from the Reddies.
Alexander Svetgoff picked up the win on the mound for NWOSU in relief of Matthew Bickford. Svetgoff pitched 4 2/3 innings scattering four hits while striking out a pair of Reddie hitters.
Colton Lorance suffered the loss and fell to 2-3 on the season.
Henderson State will hope to rebound on Saturday when the two teams play a double-header beginning at Noon.
